Two years ago I decided to plant some loofah squash in my garden. I just planted about 8 seeds, and was going to try to make sponges once they grew. We had a great harvest of loofah that year, but the next year I decided not to do any. HOWEVER, they came back as volunteers, and boy did they come back! I had loofa plants popping up all over the place. They have really pretty flowers, and make really cool sponges so I was not really complaining. I just love volunteers in the garden. It is always fun to find one. Fast forward to this season, we did not plant loofah again, but it is coming back up just like it did last year –yay! Loofah squash can be eaten, but the coolest use for it is to make a sponge out of it. OR, you could do this fun homeschool handicraft for older kiddos! Keep reading for instructions.

DIY Loofah Soap

Makes 4 bars

Supplies:

  • ¾ lb clear glycerin soap base
  • Oval soap mold https://amzn.to/2IcocvE
  • Loofah
  • Sharp knife
  • Microwave safe spouted measuring cup
  • Wooden craft stick for stirring

Directions:

  1. Cut the soap base into 1 inch cubes and place into a measuring cup.
  2. Heat in the microwave on high for 30 seconds, remove and stir. Heat for additional 30 second increments, stirring between each heating session, until fully melted.
  3. Cut the loofah into 4 slices.
  4. Place one loofah slice into each mold cavity.
  5. Pour soap over loofah to fill the mold. You will need to push the loofah down with the craft stick a bit, as it will try floating to the top.
  6. Allow soap to set for 2 hours.

Are you ready for a new (home) school year? It’s that time of year, when many homeschoolers are busy preparing for a brand new school year.  Some of you may have already started your new year, and some of you may have never stopped! Planning for a new school year and finalizing curriculum choices can sometimes be overwhelming and stressful, especially when you are trying to stick to a tight homeschool budget. I’ve gotten together with a great group of bloggers to make getting ready for your new school year just a little bit easier and hopefully a little less stressful for you.  How does $200 sound in helping you buy curriculum, books, games, puzzles, and educational supplies?  Three people will win a $200 gift card to Rainbow Resource Center!! Our hope is that we can bless a few homeschool families (although we wish we could bless many more) so they can buy the curriculum and supplies they need for their school year. To enter for your chance to win, simply use the Rafflecopter form below to enter.  Now I know this is quite a few entries, but each of these bloggers has generously chipped in their own money to make this giveaway possible, so I hope you will take the time to do all of the entries.  And hey, the more entries you do, the better your odds are of winning! Giveaway ends July 22, 2022 at 11:59pm ET.  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Must be a resident of U.S. or Canada to enter.  Selected winners will have 48 hours to respond to email notification to claim their prizes or another winner will be drawn.  By entering this giveaway, you agree to be added to the email lists of the participating bloggers (see the Terms & Conditions on the Rafflecopter form for the complete list). a Rafflecopter giveaway
